COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Juan “Cucho” Hernández had a goal and an assist after subbing in to begin the second half and the Columbus Crew held off Orlando City 4-3 on Saturday night.
Columbus (16-5-8) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute and took it into halftime when Diego Rossi used assists from Christian Ramírez — his sixth — and defender Mohamed Farsi — his third — to score his 11th goal of the season.
Ramírez scored six minutes into the second half for a 2-0 lead. Max Arfsten notched his eighth assist and Aziel Jackson snagged his second on Ramírez’s eighth goal of the season.
Hernández gave the Crew a three-goal lead in the 71st minute with his 15th goal this season — one off his career high set a year ago. Arfsten and Jackson added to their assist totals on the score.
Ramiro Enrique’s fifth goal of the campaign was unassisted and came in the 74th minute to get Orlando City (12-11-7) on the scoreboard.
Luis Muriel scored on a penalty kick in the 78th minute after Iván Angulo drew a foul on the Crew’s Yaw Yeboah to make it 3-2.
Columbus regained a two-goal advantage in the 85th minute when Jackson took a pass from Cucho and scored for the first time this season. Jackson has made five appearances with the Crew since coming over from St. Louis City, where he had one assist in 16 appearances. Cucho’s assist was his 12th.
Muriel added his fifth goal of the season when he found the net in the seventh minute of stoppage time to complete the scoring.
Patrick Schulte totaled one save in goal for the Crew.
Pedro Gallese stopped one shot for Orlando City.
The Crew travel to play D.C. United on Saturday. Orlando City travels to play FC Dallas on Saturday.
