Yelena Isinbayeva: Only another gold medal left to achieve

MOSCOW (AP) — Yelena Isinbayeva wants one more Olympic gold medal to crown her pole vault career.

The two-time Olympic champion is joining CSKA athletics club as she returns to training ahead of next year’s games in Rio de Janeiro.

The world-record holder has not competed since winning her third world title in Moscow in 2013, taking time out to have her first child. The Russian’s daughter was born in June 2014.

Isinbayeva said at a news conference Thursday that “I’ve achieved everything that is there to achieve in sports.”

She says “only a gold medal can be added to what I already have.”

Isinbayeva said with a laugh that she sees Rio as “these are my Olympics, gold or nothing.”

Isinbayeva vaulted a world record 5.06 meters in 2009.
