WASHINGTON — NBC News anchor Brian Williams’ “foggy memory” apology regarding his claims of being on a downed helicopter is resulting in a creative skewering on social media.
Within hours of Williams saying “I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago,” skeptical Twitter users began posting Photoshopped images of Williams inserted into notable moments of history.
Many of the altered images were tweeted with #BrianWilliamsMemory and #BrianWilliamsMisremembers.
In one tweet, Williams is superimposed in a still from the movie “Saving Private Ryan,” with the words Saving Private Brian.
In another, Williams is pictured in attendance at The Last Supper.
A still photo from the last scene of The Wizard of Oz shows Williams’s head on Dorothy’s body, saying “It wasn’t a dream. It was a place I was there, and you, and you…”
No comment yet from Williams on the meme. His verified @BWilliams Twitter account has more than 213-thousand followers, but he has never tweeted since joining in 2010.
