Driver in fiery Prince George’s County crash identified

WASHINGTON — The driver of a pickup truck involved in a deadly crash near the West Hyattsville Metro Station has been identified by police as 30-year-old Medardo Flores, of Chillum.

Police say Flores had been involved in an earlier crash in the area Sunday evening, and was trying to speed away from the scene when his pickup truck collided with a church van and burst into flames.

Flores died and four people in the van were killed, including an unborn baby. Thirteen others were injured.

According to Montgomery County court records, Flores has a history of being pulled over.  He was arrested in April 2014 in Silver Spring on charges of drunk driving, unsafe lane changing and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Those charges were later dropped.

Prince George’s County police are continuing to investigate Sunday’s crash.  They say it could take several months before they know the full story behind the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
