WASHINGTON – The Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the two deputies involved in a chase and fatal shooting in Landover.
The sheriff’s office says that Cpl. Jamal Dedier and Deputy Anthony Bynum are on administrative leaving following Sunday’s shooting.
Dedier has worked for the office for six years and Bynum has worked with the agency for five years.
Both deputies are assigned to the Domestic Violence Intervention Division, the sheriff’s office says.
They responded to a 911 call for a domestic disturbance involving a knife at a home in the 6200 block of Central Avenue Sunday night. The deputies believed that Lionel L. Young, 34, was a suspect in the disturbance and followed his truck. They tried to pull him over but Young sped away.
Young may have intentionally hit two sheriff’s vehicles and that’s when Dedier and Bynum fired at Young, killing him, Prince George’s County police say.
Investigators recovered two knives at the shooting scene on Nalley Road, police say.
The county sheriff’s office and police department are two separate agencies.
