WASHINGTON — A woman is in critical condition after a vehicle crash involving a Metro Transit Police officer early Wednesday.
According to a statement from a Metro spokesman, the crash occurred in Temple Hills, Maryland on Branch Avenue near the Naylor Road Metro Station.
The woman was trying to cross the busy roadway when the officer’s police cruiser crashed into her shortly before 12:30 a.m.
There was no crosswalk, intersection or traffic signal in the area through which the woman was walking, according to the statement.
The transit police officer has been placed on administrative duty as the investigation continues. The officer was not responding to an emergency and did not have the cruiser’s siren or flashing lights activated.
Prince George’s County Police are leading the investigation, according to the statement.
No citations have been issued.
