WASHINGTON — The Democratic National Committee has cut off the access of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ campaign to certain voter information following reports his staff improperly accessed data gathered by rival Hillary Clinton’s camp, The Washington Post reports.
The Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, tells The Post a staffer viewed the information, but that a software vendor was to blame for a glitch. A staffer was fired, as a result.
The Post reports that a vendor called NGP VAN handles the data, and firewalls are set up to prevent access to other candidates’ information. The incident reportedly happened Wednesday while the software was being patched.
Sanders’ campaign will not be allowed access to the voter data until it provides an explanation and proof that any of the impacted Clinton data has been destroyed.
A spokesman for Clinton’s campaign declined to comment, according to The Post.
