Obama opens personal Facebook page, talks climate change

WASHINGTON — With a little more than a year left in his tenure, it seems President Obama is opening up a little. He launched a personal Twitter account in May, and even engaged in a playful back-and-forth with former president Bill Clinton about rights to the @POTUS name.

On Monday, Obama launched his Facebook page by walking through the backyard of the White House, the place he’s called home for the past seven years. In a video posted to the page, the president said more needs to be done to address climate change, so his children and future generations can enjoy lush parks — like his backyard — for years to come.

“Not only do I want future presidents to be able to take walks like this,” Obama said. “I want to make sure that the American people are able to enjoy the incredible national parks — the incredible beauty, the mountains, the oceans — that have been one of the greatest gifts that we’ve ever received.”

Obama said he’s going to Paris in December to meet with world leaders and create an international framework that addresses climate change.

“We’re gonna need you to help us on this,” the president concluded. “You’ve got to get engaged about why climate change is so important. Because if all of America is joining around this critical project, then we can have confidence that we’re doing right by future generations.”
