WASHINGTON — If you are 50 or older, you’ll remember the days of babysitting for a $1 an hour.
Today’s babysitters make on average $13.44, according to Care.com.
But if you are a parent in D.C., you’re paying about $15 an hour for a sitter for one child, and up to $5 more per hour for each additional child.
D.C. is among the five most expensive markets for babysitters.

1. San Francisco — $16.65 an hour
2. San Jose, California — $15.63 an hour
3. Boston — $15.37 an hour
4. New York City — $15.09 an hour
5. D.C. – $14.99 an hour
Care.com surveyed more than 1,000 of its members to come up with the 2014 figures.
The city with the least expensive sitters is Grand Rapids, Michigan. They make $11.31 per hour.
In 2009, babysitters made $10.50 per hour.
