WASHINGTON — Madame Tussauds’ wax figure of Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps has been moved from its San Francisco museum, where it debuted in 2014, to its D.C. museum — but it made one stop along the way.
Madame Tussauds D.C. partnered with the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation to unveil the figure at the Banneker Pool at 2500 Georgia Ave. NW. As part of the event, children were invited to participate in swim competitions.
“We couldn’t think of a better time to welcome this figure to the heart of the nation,” said Therese Alvich, general manager at Madame Tussauds Washington D.C. “It it not often that an individual becomes a champion of this caliber and we are thrilled to be able to provide fans a place where they can cheer alongside Michael as he makes our country proud once again.”
The Michael Phelps wax figure will remain at the museum’s D.C. location at 1101 F St. NW throughout the 2016 Summer Olympics.
