The bank, based in Toronto, said it had earnings of $1.71 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and amortization costs, came to $2.84 per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.71 per share.
The bank posted revenue of $14.41 billion in the period. Its revenue net of interest expense was $7.09 billion, also exceeding Street forecasts.
Bank of Montreal shares have increased 33% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 50% in the last 12 months.
