The Rapid City, South Dakota-based company said it had profit of 38 cents per share.
The energy company posted revenue of $439 million in the period.
Black Hills expects full-year earnings to be $4 to $4.20 per share.
Black Hills shares have declined slightly more than 2% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $57.11, a drop of 3% in the last 12 months.
