Every election affects our region’s economy. But this election will be a watershed moment, one that — putting aside the social issues which are themselves enormous (whatever your viewpoint) — will have a profound impact.
I start my analysis with certain key assumptions. First, Project 2025 and other policy work completed in our region will provide the policy backbone for the legislative and regulatory agenda of the second Trump administration. Second, the Republican Party will have tremendous latitude in implementing policy, due to control of the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. Third, because of the polarization of the country and the accelerated sorting of ideologies into different regions and states, local laws and attitudes will become more important as a day-to-day matter, as individuals seek to live where their social viewpoints are dominant.
