President-elect Trump promised during his campaign to “take over” D.C. and “clean it up.” The last time he was in office, he threatened to exercise his legal authority to take over D.C.’s police force during the racial justice protests of 2020. On top of that, there will be a looming showdown with the federal workforce, who will fight a return to the office and are backed by rock-solid collective bargaining agreements allowing them to work remotely.
Now that we are through the national elections, D.C. has a unique opportunity to take advantage of the Republicans’ desire to help the city become what Trump called the greatest capital city in the world, but one in need of a lot of help.
