On a per-share basis, the Richmond, Virginia-based company said it had net income of $1.12. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 98 cents per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 92 cents per share.
The energy company posted revenue of $3.94 billion in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.09 billion.
Dominion Energy expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.68 to $2.83 per share.
