The Rapid City, South Dakota-based company said it had net income of 35 cents per share.
The energy company posted revenue of $401.6 million in the period.
Black Hills expects full-year earnings to be $3.80 to $4 per share.
Black Hills shares have climbed 12% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $60.36, a climb of 17% in the last 12 months.
