Frederik De Pue, executive chef and owner of The Henri fine-dining restaurant in downtown D.C., died Thursday after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer, the restaurant said Friday. He was 48.
An Instragram post said De Pue succumbed to the disease with “undaunted stoicism and unyielding positivity.”
Before opening The Henri in 2022 at 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW near the White House, De Pue owned Table in Shaw, Azur and Menu MBK in Penn Quarter and Flamant in Annapolis. De Pue, who we interviewed in 2013, also operated 42° Catering in Rockville.
Henri has a Belgian-French menu and features private dining and a bar; it is located around the corner from the National Theatre and has enjoyed robust business from theatergoers. De Pue was a fixture in the restaurant, overseeing the kitchen and greeting guests. The venue remains open.
