New White House museum leans into interactive tech to showcase history

The latest attraction in D.C. will let visitors sit behind the Oval Office’s Resolute Desk, debate policy decisions in the Cabinet Room and experience a state dinner.

No, these opportunities won’t take place in the actual White House — but it won’t be far from it.

At about 250 yards away and spanning the first three floors of the Mills Building at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, the White House Historical Association is hoping its new The People’s House: A White House Experience will draw 300,000 visitors annually. It features interactive experiences that highlight the rooms and people who have lived and worked in the executive mansion.

The 33,000-square-foot attraction formally opens to the public on Monday, and free, timed slots can be reserved online.
