New supermarket planned for shuttered Giant site on D.C.-Maryland border

The owner of a former Giant grocery store site on the Prince George’s County border with D.C. is advancing plans for a new market there.

Temple Hills-based Lee & Seo Investment Co. is seeking contractors for the first phase of a two-phase project to expand and convert the roughly 22,000-square-foot abandoned building at 4508 Wheeler Road in Oxon Hill into a roughly 55,000-square-foot, full-service store.

To be called P.G. World Market, it would be the second store in Prince George’s for Lee & Seo, led by Chang S. Lee, which also operates the Jumbo Food International Supermarket at 3201 Brinkley Road in Temple Hills. The market would also have an additional 2,400 square feet of secondary retail or restaurant space.

Lee & Seo acquired the 7.3-acre property, located a couple blocks west of the Southern Avenue Metro station, for $900,000 in 2011 with plans to eventually develop the property, though complications, including health problems, kept him from advancing the project sooner, he…
