As a Northern Virginia business executive and member of the Virginia Business Higher Education Council, I am grateful to the Virginia General Assembly for supporting economic and workforce development in our region. Now, as the annual budget conference process moves to a conclusion, lawmakers in Richmond have another opportunity to adopt important budget proposals that will help businesses recruit and retain more talented young people for our region’s workforce.
Our top-ranked higher education system is a source of pride for Virginians and a key differentiator in the competition for new business investment. Less obvious, but no less essential, is the crucial role our colleges, universities, and community colleges play in attracting and retaining talented young people in our region.
