Pediatric Associates of Alexandria acquires new location to expand practice

Pediatric Associates of Alexandria, a nearly 70-year-old medical group with two local offices, is taking steps to open a third Northern Virginia location amid mounting demand for children’s medicine — including mental health care services.

The practice is advancing work on a building it bought in November for $2 million at 2747 Duke St. in Alexandria, Dr. Michael Hopper, PAA’s president and CEO, told me in an interview.

That 2,900-square-foot building, a former Bank of America branch, is a “big, open space with high ceilings” that could accommodate about 12 exam rooms, he said. Each of the practice’s current offices — one in Fairfax County and another in Arlington — has about 18 exam rooms. Combined, they see an average of about 10,000 patients per month.

That number would increase with the new practice, Hopper said. Once it’s at full capacity, it could add another 25% to PAA’s current volumes.
