Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to leave Seattle for Miami

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) founder and former CEO Jeff Bezos is leaving the Seattle area, almost 30 years after moving to the region and starting what is now one of the most valuable companies in the world out of his garage.

“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than I’ve lived anywhere else and have so many amazing memories here,” Bezos wrote Thursday in an Instagram post announcing his move. “As exciting as the move is, it’s an emotional decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”

The billionaire, who stepped down as Amazon’s CEO in 2021, said he’s planning to move to Miami with his fiance Lauren Sanchez to be closer to his parents. He graduated from Miami Palmetto High School in 1982.

Bezos has two Medina, Washington, properties that together were assessed in 2019 at nearly $130 million. He purchased one property in 1998 for $10 million and bought an adjacent property in 2010 for $45 million.
