Even if you don’t have kids, your local high school matters.
The quality of a local high school — assessed by test scores, graduation rates, student-to-teacher ratio and more — is a massive contributor to property values, workforce development and business attraction.
Just look at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, the perennial top high school in the region. That STEM-focused magnet school, pulling some of the top young minds from across Fairfax County, is a feather in the cap for the county’s economic development leaders as they look to lure business relocations. “Your employees will have the ability to send their children to one of the top high schools in the country,” has a pretty nice ring to it, no?
And yes, those of us in the business community who are parents often determine where we want to live based on the reputation of a neighborhood’s high school district.
