Here are the longest-tenured CEOs at D.C.-area public companies

When Michael Saylor stepped down as CEO of MicroStrategy Inc. (NASDAQ: MSTR) in August, it marked the end of an era. Saylor, who remains executive chairman, founded the company in 1989 and had been the only CEO in the company’s 32-year history.

It also got us thinking: Have any other CEOs at local publicly traded companies been in their roles as long or longer than Saylor?

Turns out the answer is yes. Scroll though our gallery of the 10 longest-tenured CEOs to find out who they are, but we’ll tell you this much: Two have had longer runs than Saylor and both lead companies with a commercial real estate focus.

The other eight have all been in their roles since the 1990s and, tellingly, all but one founded the companies they helm.
