Q&A: One year in, American Cancer Society’s new leader sees a sharpened focus coming out of the Covid pandemic

Karen Knudsen thought she knew about the American Cancer Society from her days as a physician heading the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson Health in Philadelphia. What she soon learned after taking over ACS in June 2021: Her new organization was bigger and more influential than she ever imagined. Most people have been focused on Covid-19 since 2020. A lot of attention was understandably focused there, but cancer didn’t go away.
