For an immigrant in the United States who wishes to be respected both personally and professionally, written English can be an ally that helps unveil thoughts before the incriminating foreign accent, or any other xenophobic kind of prejudice, taints them.

For me as a newcomer, writing became my shield against discrimination until I felt strong enough to build corporate partnerships and help empower underserved communities from a place of equality.
