Longtime D.C. advertising firm MDB Communications Inc. has been sold, becoming the first office outside of Ohio for its new owner.
Hart Inc., the Toledo, Ohio-based buyer, is a marketing, advertising and communications agency that focuses on health care, higher education, and B2B marketing. Terms of the deal, which closed on May 2, weren’t disclosed.
For MDB, the sale was “about how do we provide not just strength here in the DMV, but how do we combine our efforts and our talents to serve our clients’ needs,” former MDB CEO Cary Hatch said in an interview with the Washington Business Journal.
Hart is the fifth busiest advertising agency in central Ohio based on gross receipts, according to Columbus Business First research. In 2020, the firm had $16.6 million in gross receipts, and it counted 55 employees company-wide as of August 2021.
