Meet the man behind a massive Virginia indoor car wash

For Guy Paolozzi, it always comes back to the cars.

One of the owners of Flagship Carwash — a chain of 18 car cleaning and detailing venues across Greater Washington — remembers tinkering under the hood when he was little. By high school, the self-professed “car freak” had bought himself a 1968 Mustang Boss 302, but had to hide it at his friend’s house so his dad wouldn’t find it.

Paolozzi took the corporate route later in life, but when the opportunity to get into cars came up again, he was no longer willing to hide his love of vehicles. And so, Paolozzi jumped into the car wash business with Flagship Carwash, joining with the brand’s original founder, Donnie Hinton. They just opened a 65,000-square-foot location in Ashburn, which they’re touting as among the largest in North America. There, Paolozzi is bringing his own brand of car culture, informed by a lifetime both behind the wheel and in front of it.
