Alfonso Guzman has led JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s regional expansion in Greater Washington since 2019, which means he lives and breathes finance.
But that wasn’t always the case for the son of Mexican immigrants. His parents taught him a lot, and he still turns to them for guidance. Among the few things they didn’t talk to him about while growing up, however, was money.
In time, Guzman became interested in investing and other business topics on his own. He studied business administration when he went to college at the University of Southern California, learning the effect finances can have on everyday life. And he also learned art history.
“Life can be hard. That’s true,” he says. “It need not be harder than it already is if you have proper financial planning. And again, that doesn’t mean money is everything. But I do think it helps in many cases to have that aligned and in a good place.”
