Viewpoint: Not just bottom lines — businesses must make their communities a top priority

Business can be so much more than the bottom line, sales targets and appeasing shareholders — with the right leadership, it can be a force for real and lasting change. 

More and more organizations are not only realizing this, but are also making it a business imperative to actively invest in their staff and communities. Indeed, in 2019, The Business Roundtable redefined its statement on the business’ purpose to go beyond shareholder value and include a commitment to all stakeholders — the customers, community, employees and suppliers. The modern definition of a successful business is shifting from one that only values profits to one with a responsibility to their communities.
