My Story: Kevin Turpin II on being kind ‘even when it is hard’

“The one thing I want my child to be when he grows up is kind.”

My mother, Wanda Turpin, made this proclamation when I was born to her and my father, Kevin Turpin, in the fall of 1983 in Buffalo, New York. My mother and father followed through on this commitment by raising me and my younger sister, Jade, in a home full of love, kindness and support. Putting our faith in Jesus Christ at the center of everything, they also instilled values of hard work, integrity, humility and self-worth. They taught us that anything is possible with God, faith and focus.
