Small Business Owner of the Year: Fred Costa

Companies trying to attract and retain talent in 2021 have been focusing more attention on employee experience. At MetaPhase Consulting LLC, CEO Fred Costa has long made that a top priority.

“My personal goal is to be culture-oriented,” Costa says. “It’s the key driver to our success as a company.”

In the midst of a pandemic, Costa helped the Reston management and IT consulting contractor, which logged $15.9 million in 2020 revenue, grow to more than 100 employees and 25 multimillion-dollar contracts across 13 federal agencies, including the departments of Homeland Security, Agriculture and Energy, as well as the Coast Guard, Environmental Protection Agency, IRS and U.S. Agency for International Development.

“We grew rapidly over 2020 and 2021, and a lot of people felt it was important to maintain good culture,” he says.
