Phillips Crab House closes in Ocean City after more than 65 years

Phillips Crab House has closed for good in Ocean City, Maryland, after more than 65 years in business.

The restaurant property, an institution in a shore town known for its seafood spots, will be sold, the Phillips family announced Monday via social media. It was unclear whether the restaurant has been sold yet, and state land records have not yet been updated to reflect the sale.

“Over our 66 seasons in business, we’ve served millions of families, vacationers and OC locals, and our family feels so fortunate to have earned the loyalty of our guests, who came back year after year to build their vacation memories with us,” the family wrote in a post.

The crab house at 2004 Philadelphia Ave. was an entree into the restaurant world for Brice and Shirley Phillips, who opened the eatery in 1956 as a way to build upon the Phillips Seafood brand.
