Edmund Cronin, who led two major Greater Washington commercial real estate firms during his decadeslong career in the industry, died Nov. 26 at the age of 84, his family said. A cause of death was not immediately available.
“Ed Cronin lived a good life and he shared it with all he came across,” his family wrote in his obituary. “He helped countless people rise through the ranks of commercial real estate and was quick to offer his advice or kind words of encouragement. His generous spirit will live on through the stories of his life, the advice and words of encouragement he gave, and the careers he helped.”
Cronin, of Olney, “worked his way up through the B.F. Saul Co. before striking out on his own,” with partners, in 1977, to acquire H.G. Smithy Co., among the region’s largest full-service commercial real estate services firms.
