Company behind Fairfax Peak indoor ski facility brings on Olympic medalist

McLean-based Alpine-X has enlisted the aid of Olympic skier Bode Miller as it seeks to open an indoor snow sports resort in Northern Virginia and expand that business with other new venues across the country.

Miller, who won a gold medal in alpine skiing in Vancouver in 2010 and five other Olympic medals in his career, will serve as chief innovation officer at Alpine-X. The multiyear agreement is between the McLean company and M Bar W Enterprises LLC, the consulting firm Miller co-founded with ski industry veteran Andy Wirth, who will also join Alpine-X as a strategic adviser.

Beyond the name recognition he brings, Miller will lend his expertise and familiarity with indoor ski facilities to the venture, and has already been serving unofficially as a consultant prior to the cementing of formal partnership, the parties said. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
