The push to approve sports betting at casinos in Maryland will take a little longer.
The group tasked with approving sports wagering licenses for casinos — as well as race tracks, sports stadiums and other facilities named as potential hosts in the state law allowing sports betting in Maryland — decided on Wednesday to delay approval of pending licenses for the five casinos who have so far applied for the privilege.
The announcement came after more than two hours of closed-session discussion as the group, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission, or SWARC, sought legal advice.
When they resumed the open session portion of the public meeting, commissioners voted to request supplemental information about ownership from each sports wagering facility applicant.
It was not immediately clear what exactly the request for additional information will entail, or why commissioners decided to ask for more details. The commission’s next scheduled meeting is Nov. 18 at 8:30 a.m.…
