Event planners aim to hold the National Cherry Blossom Festival in-person next year after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the hallmark tourist attraction to pivot to virtual events for the past two years.
It’s too soon to say whether another variant like Delta could derail those plans. But Diana Mayhew, president and CEO of the festival, proudly declared on Tuesday afternoon the goal to allow crowds to gather and take in such heralded festival events as the annual parade, slated to be held April 9 along Constitution Avenue.
“We are thrilled to share with you what’s ahead,” Mayhew said during a pre-event announcement at Hamilton Live. “I am pleased to announce the National Cherry Blossom Festival will be back live and in person in 2022. We will ensure that D.C. continues to own spring.”
