Taco Bamba is gearing up for a major expansion with the aim of becoming a national restaurant brand.
VA Taco Holdings LLC, the parent company for the homegrown taqueria chain, has forged a partnership with Raleigh-based Investors Management Corp. for undisclosed terms. The pair is focused more immediately on seeking out new locations in Greater Washington while also weighing potential new markets in the Mid-Atlantic and along the East Coast, according to Victor Albisu, chef and Taco Bamba co-founder.
The business started in 2013 with a carryout restaurant in a Falls Church retail center, and it now has a half-dozen locations between Northern Virginia and Rockville. Notwithstanding that growth trajectory, it was IMC, best known for its investment in the Golden Corral restaurant chain, that first broached the idea of acquiring an equity stake in the business, not the other way around, Albisu said.
