Amazon.com Inc. will open a 630,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Stafford County next year, in a Peterson Cos.’ development, to serve as an East Coast hub for supply chain operations.
The cross-dock facility, Amazon’s largest in the area outside of Baltimore, is expected to shift into full operations in the second half of 2022, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Tuesday. The facility, located a few miles north of Fredericksburg, will serve sort, repack and distribute third-party vendor products to other Amazon distribution centers.
Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) will be eligible for incentives through the Port of Virginia Economic and Infrastructure Development Zone Grant Program. Funding through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, meanwhile, will support training for Amazon’s expected 500 new hires. An exact dollar figure for the incentives was not immediately available.
