These D.C.-area high schools best prepare students for college, per 2022 ranking

It’s no wonder the D.C. region held its own in the top three metro areas for being most educated — not just in terms of the number of degrees in the hands of its residents, but also due to the quality of secondary education leading up to those preeminent college years.

So as part of our series on top-ranked schools across Greater Washington, we decided this time to take a look at a ranking that means quite a lot to those highly educated families blanketing the region: which high schools best prepare their students for the collegiate experience.

For its 2022 ranking, Niche.com, an education data platform based in Pittsburgh, judged the D.C. area’s public and private high schools based on several criteria, as per Department of Education data, college data, test scores and parent and student surveys:

Average score of colleges that students said in surveys they were most interested in attending — or did attend
Average SAT/ACT composite scores
Percentage of AP students who pass at least…
