An office-to-condo conversion is moving ahead in Old Town North in Alexandria.
Brookfield Residential said this week it has begun work converting two buildings at the Towngate office complex located at 625 and 635 Slaters Lane into condo buildings.
The complex, to be renamed Towngate North, will be remade into 81 one-, two- and three-bedroom units that it said expects to be priced in the mid-$400,000s to $1.6 million. Most of the work is to the interior of the complex. The exterior changes that went before Alexandria’s Board of Architecture Review last year were relatively minor, including new windows, doors and siding.
The buildings, completed in 1986 and currently totaling 125,600 square feet, are located adjacent to the George Washington Memorial Parkway and Mount Vernon Trail as well as the U.S. headquarters of the Salvation Army.
