Sadhvi Subramanian believes deeply in the power of relationships, because she knows what it’s like to be new. New to a country, to a city, to a job and to an industry. Especially a male-dominated one.
When she moved to the U.S. in 1995, Subramanian left behind the successful art gallery and accompanying restaurant she opened in New Delhi right after college. When the man she loved moved to St. Louis for his medical career, they tried the long-distance thing until it proved untenable and she joined him in Missouri. There, she got her MBA and switched careers to investment banking.
When a better opportunity opened up for her husband in D.C., Subramanian found herself again in a new city, this time in the winter of 2001 with a 1-year-old at home and few connections.
