Honoree: Evelyn Lee

Evelyn Lee didn’t go into banking thinking she wanted to be a banker her entire life. Then again, she didn’t go to France thinking she would spend her life married to a Frenchman, either.

In both cases, she learned the language and fell in love.

After spending her junior and senior years of college in Switzerland and France piecing together a liberal arts degree, Lee attended a job fair at her alma mater, The College of William & Mary. While there, she found an opportunity to join the trainee development program at SunTrust Banks Inc.

Twenty-one years later, Lee is still with SunTrust — now Truist — and she’s climbed into the senior leadership ranks. As regional president for the Greater Washington area, she now has direct oversight over all commercial banking in Greater Washington, overseeing 1,500 teammates and more than $33 billion in local deposits, ensuring that all aspects of the bank’s activities in the region are well-integrated.
