Giant Food has inked a deal to open at Orchard Center in Silver Spring, filling a void created when ShopRite closed its store there in early 2021.
The Landover-based grocery chain has signed a lease for the roughly 64,626-square-foot ShopRite space at 12028 Cherry Hill Road, according to sources familiar with the situation. It will lease the space from an affiliate of Baltimore-based MCB Real Estate LLC. Representatives for MCB could not be reached for comment and Giant, through a spokesperson, declined to comment.
It’s the latest in a flurry of replacement leases for anchor grocers in the region that included Aldi replacing Shoppers at White Flint Plaza, Amazon Fresh opening in a former Shoppers in Franconia and a former Giant in Chevy Chase, and Lidl replacing a Shoppers in Burke.
