Amazon proposes new Loudoun warehouse, replacing an indoor sports facility

Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) plans to convert a Sterling industrial building most recently used as an indoor athletics center into a warehouse.

The 4-acre site at 100 Powers Court, owned by Vienna-based NVA Development Group LLC, is located in the Bays Dulles Industrial Park commercial subdivision. The former tenant was The Campus, which offered basketball, volleyball, track, a fitness center and turf fields across its 56,000 square feet.

Loudoun County accepted Amazon’s application Friday to turn the property into a “warehouse facility with office use,” according to public documents.

It’s not a data center, despite the fact that the applicant named on those documents is Amazon Data Services Inc. and given the company’s current data center dominance in the county through its cloud computing arm, Amazon Web Services.
