Prince William County leaders see George Mason University’s campus outside Manassas as an engine of economic growth that’s never realized its full potential — but two new developments just approved for its doorstep could finally change that.
Taken together, the pair of projects could transform roughly 131 acres where University Boulevard meets Prince William Parkway into just over 2,800 new homes and more than 2 million square feet of commercial space, including office, hotel and retail uses. About half of the new homes would be specifically set aside as student housing, as Mason considers how to expand its Science and Technology campus there as part of a broader move to grow its tech offerings around the region.
