15 Best Tax Day Deals for Free Food and Discounts

Whether you want to spend your tax refund (or save it because you owed the IRS this year), retailers and restaurants are giving you a reason to celebrate Tax Day on April 17, 2018.

Some restaurants will be handing out free food, and plenty of stores will be running sales that coincide with Tax Day. Details and participation may vary by franchise, however, so call ahead and check to make sure the location closest to you is participating.

Food and Drink

Bite Squad. The food-delivery service (available in 30 metro areas) will offer 7.5 percent off orders placed via its website or app on April 17. Use promo code TAXDAY18.

Bruegger’s Bagels. The New York-style bagel chain has offered what it calls “Tax Relief Week” for the past several years, and this year is no different. April 9 through April 17, get 20 percent off online catering orders (pickup or delivery). Just enter TWENTYOFF at checkout.

California Tortilla. Use the magic words “chipping in” when you order and get free chips and queso with any purchase on April 17. This promo gets you one small order of chips and queso per guest.

Great American Cookies. You deserve a little treat for filing your taxes on time. Luckily, Great American Cookies is continuing its tradition of offering each customer a free cookie on Tax Day. On April 17, stop by a participating store for a free Cookies & Cream cookie (one per customer).

Grimaldi’s Coal Brick-Oven Pizzeria. As a reward for filing your Form 1040, get a 16-inch cheese pizza for $10.40 on Tax Day while supplies last. The regular price of this pizza is $16.

Hot Dog on a Stick. Participating locations will offer each customer one Original Turkey Dog or Veggie Dog on Tax Day. There is no purchase necessary.

Kona Ice. The truck chain, which serves shaved ice, has a long-standing tradition of celebrating Tax Day, which it calls National Chill Out Day. Relax with a free cup of shaved ice on April 17. There is a limit of one per customer.

Sonny’s BBQ. Participating locations will be offering an Irresistible Ribs Special, or IRS, on Tax Day. Get dinner-portion-size St. Louis Rib dinners for half price when you dine in or order takeout.

Retail

Asos. Through April 17, get up to 50 percent off men’s and women’s items. The sale is broad and encompasses a variety of spring dresses, coats, jackets, shoes, bags, swimsuits, activewear and more. Note, however, that some items are limited stock and may sell out before the sale ends.

Franklin Planner. If you felt overwhelmed by this year’s federal tax deadline, commit to being more organized next year with a day planner notebook. On April 17, you’ll be able to get 17 percent off your order by entering coupon code TAX17.

Lowe’s. Lowe’s is holding a Spring Black Friday sale that’s been extended through April 18. Various deals in the sale expire on different days, so check the details on each sale item carefully. While yard work may not seem like much of a reward after filing your taxes, this sale is a great way to stock up on home staples and big-ticket items. Select lawn mowers are 10 percent off, for example, certain patio furniture is up to 20 percent off, and mulches and gardening soils are more than 50 percent off.

Macy’s. Now that your taxes are done, you can concentrate on your fitness goals. Macy’s has several fitness-tracker discounts running through April 17. For example, get the Gear S3 Frontier Smart Watch for $299.99 (marked down from $349.99) and the Samsung Gear Sport Smart Watch for $249.99 (marked down from $299.99).

Office Depot & OfficeMax. Visit officedepot.com to get a coupon good for free shredding (up to 5 pounds of paper) through April 28. The IRS recommends that most taxpayers keep most records for three years. So use this deal to shred anything pre-2015.

Shoe Carnival. Through April 17, buy two or more pairs of shoes and get 20 percent off with promo code APRIL20.

West Elm. In-stock items are 25 percent off through April 17. The sale includes sectionals, sofas, bedding, decor and more.
