WASHINGTON — A 28-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police said he threw sulfuric acid on his roommate’s face and upper body in Prince George’s County, Maryland, over the weekend.

Bekre Abdela, of Hyattsville, Maryland, was arrested Monday and has been charged with attempted murder, assault and other charges, Prince George’s County police said.

Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the report of a roommate dispute in the 1000 block of East-West Highway and found a woman with what appeared to be chemical burns. She was taken to a hospital, police said, and she is still in critical condition.

Abdela, her roommate, had fled the scene before officers arrived. Police said he has admitted to his involvement in the attack, but are still trying to find a motive.
