The Best Post-Christmas and New Year’s Sales to Watch For

If you didn’t get what you wanted for Christmas, Dec. 26 through the end of the year is a great time to shop. Many retailers will be running post-Christmas and New Year sales to unload everything that didn’t get purchased for the holidays.

Most retailers running sales after Christmas will wait to announce them until after the Christmas hype has ended, meaning full details won’t be released until just before or after Dec. 25. Based on previous years, however, here’s where you can expect to find the best sales.

Amazon
Predicted dates: Dec. 25 to Dec. 31

Whenever brick-and-mortar retailers offer sales, you can expect Amazon to be close on their heels. Amazon is known for its price-matching and undercutting tactics during Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the rest of the holiday shopping season, and it’s no different when it comes to post-Christmas sales.

Its Year-End Deals page is already live and states that the event will begin in December 2017.

Dillard’s
Predicted date: Jan. 1

If you want to relive the Black Friday magic, consider the Dillard’s New Year’s Day clearance sale, which is traditionally held on Jan. 1. Being a one-day-only sale, it tends to draw crowds at many locations. Expect up to 50 percent off clearance merchandise.

Kohl’s
Predicted dates: Dec. 25 to Jan. 1

The Kohl’s after-Christmas sale usually features deep markdowns on clearance items, as well as storewide discounts on non-clearance items, both in store and online (with discount promo codes).

Macy’s
Predicted dates: Dec. 26 to Jan. 1

The Macy’s after-Christmas sale is tradition. In past years, stores have opened early on Dec. 26, and the retailer has offered storewide discounts plus free shipping for online shoppers. Expect to find the best deals on clothing and on bedding. Last year’s sale also prominently featured furniture and offered low prices on sectionals and beds, as well as special financing.

Nordstrom
Predicted dates: Dec. 26 to Jan. 2

Twice a year, Nordstrom (which does not frequently run sales) throws its Half-Yearly Sale. One of those falls right after the holidays (Dec. 26 through Jan. 2 this year). Past spring and winter Half-Yearly Sales have featured 40 percent to 50 percent off apparel, so get ready to save on designer wear.

Overstock
Predicted dates: Dec. 26 to Dec. 31

If you don’t want to hit the stores again so soon after the holidays, check out Overstock’s “One Big After Christmas Sale.” Its page for the sale is thin on details, but it’s promising up to 70 percent off — and, specifically, 20 percent to 50 percent off jewelry, area rugs, furniture, bedding and more. Last year’s sale also offered free shipping on many items and special coupons mailed out to subscribers, so sign up for Overstock’s mailing list.
