These Are the Least Healthy Cities in Each State

Certain cities are less healthy than others, and a new report has found the least healthy ones in all U.S. states.

Even though the U.S. devotes more money to health care than anywhere else in the world, it ranks poorly when it comes to key statistics like life expectancy. And broken down on the state level, the details are even more grave.

A new report from 24/7 Wall St., a business news and opinion website , has found the least healthy metro area in every state, based on markers like healthy behavior, social and economic conditions and the physical environment.

These include: Mobile, Alabama; Anchorage, Alaska; and Lake Havasu City-Kingman, Arizona.

Premature mortality, smoking and obesity rates and more are included in the ranking along with each locale.

For example, Mobile, Alabama, has an adult obesity rate of 37.1 percent and an adult smoking rate of 21.6 percent. The report notes smoking is the country’s leading cause of preventable death. This 21.6 percent share is the largest of any Alabama metro area. Additionally, its obesity rate is the state’s largest — not to mention the country’s overall obesity rate is 28 percent.

A look at the least healthy metro areas can be found below in alphabetical order, with more details here.
